Further to reading the camera manual, I set myself the task of understanding metering. I took three identical images with different metering. In these photos, the centre-weighted image works best because the darker tones make the griffin look slightly more sinister, although the colours in the matrix image are most like the conditions at the time. I think you would use matrix for when the light sources is behind the subject, so that the light is diffused evenly, centre-weighted for when you want the image to be more dramatic, and spot for use in situations of high contrast or shine??
